AC Milan 3-1 Inter: Pulisic Stars a Day After Signing to 2031 in Derby Win
Milan Derby delight for AC Milan: Pulisic scored a day after signing to 2031, Rabiot and Moreira struck in a 3-1 win over Inter, a fourth straight derby win.
The Milan Derby belonged to AC Milan on Saturday, and it belonged to Christian Pulisic most of all. A day after signing a new contract through 2031, the American headed Milan into a fourth-minute lead, and the Rossoneri never looked back, beating Inter 3-1 to make it four straight derby wins and climb into fourth place in Serie A.
Milan Derby: Three Goals in 22 Minutes Settle It Early
Milan made the perfect start at San Siro. Pulisic headed the opener after just four minutes, and Adrien Rabiot added a second six minutes later to stun Inter before the game had settled. Inter pulled a goal back through Alessandro Bastoni in the 22nd minute, and for a spell the momentum swung towards the Nerazzurri.
The next goal was always going to be crucial, and it went to Milan. Diego Moreira, who had already set up two goals, scored with a superb free-kick just before half-time to restore the two-goal cushion and end the contest as a spectacle, even with a second half still to play.
The goal sequence
- 4' — Christian Pulisic heads Milan in front
- 10' — Adrien Rabiot doubles the lead
- 22' — Alessandro Bastoni pulls one back for Inter
- Just before half-time — Diego Moreira's free-kick makes it 3-1
Pulisic's Perfect Day After the 2031 Deal
The derby goal capped a perfect 48 hours for Pulisic. AC Milan announced on Friday that the American had extended his contract through June 30, 2031, ending any doubt about his future after entering the final year of his previous deal. Since joining from Chelsea in July 2023, Pulisic has recorded 44 goals and 28 assists in 141 appearances, and his header on Saturday was the ideal way to celebrate the new deal.
Moreira was arguably the game's outstanding player, with one goal and two assists, while Rabiot's early strike set the tone for a Milan side that started at full speed. Inter, who had arrived as joint leaders, were chasing the game from the fourth minute and never recovered.
What the Win Means: Fourth Place, Four Points Off Top
The result lifts Milan into fourth place, four points behind leaders Lazio and Inter, who both sit on 25 points. It also continues a remarkable derby run: four straight wins over Inter, a sequence that has turned the city rivalry firmly in Milan's favour.
The derby also came in a symbolic week for both clubs, who announced they will build a new shared 71,500-seat stadium to replace San Siro. On Saturday, though, the old ground belonged to Milan, and the loudest cheers were for the American who had just committed his future to the club.
