Newcastle Crisis Deepens: Everton Win 1-0 at St James' Park as Barry Strikes and Ramsey Sees Red

Newcastle 0-1 Everton deepened the crisis at St James' Park on Monday night, as Thierno Barry's 49th-minute tap-in gave Everton their first away league win of the season and made it two wins over Newcastle in five days. The home side finished with ten men after substitute Jacob Ramsey was sent off in stoppage time, and the boos at full time told the story of a club sliding the wrong way.

Thierno Barry's Winner: Quick Free-Kick, Loose Ball, Tap-In

Everton had been the better team from the start, and the breakthrough came four minutes after half-time. Newcastle were caught cold by a quick free-kick, Tyrique George was played in behind, and his shot squirmed underneath goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek. Barry, just a couple of yards out, pounced to tap home.

There was a lengthy VAR check for a possible offside before the goal was given, and Newcastle felt aggrieved at the build-up, with Fabian Schar going down holding his face as Barry made his run. Schar needed treatment before returning to the game. The goal stood, and it was Barry's fourth of the season — and his second decisive strike against Newcastle in a matter of days, after Everton's Carabao Cup win over the same opponents last week.

Jacob Ramsey's Red Card Caps a Miserable Night

Newcastle pushed late, and Ramsey almost levelled with a curling low shot that bent just wide of the bottom corner. Instead, his night ended in disgrace. Brought on in the 76th minute, Ramsey picked up two yellow cards in stoppage time — the second, in the 90th minute plus eight, for a strong challenge on Armstrong that caught him above the ankle — and was sent off just 84 seconds after his first booking.

Jordan Pickford had earlier kept out Yoane Wissa's strike, and Everton survived a late scare when a clearance came off the line. By then, though, the pattern was set: Everton organised, Newcastle frustrated, and another home defeat in a season that is threatening to spiral.

What Newcastle 0-1 Everton Means for Both Clubs

The result lifts Everton to seventh in the Premier League, on 13 points, and ends their wait for an away league victory this season — indeed, Everton have now won at St James' Park for a third season running. For Newcastle, it is a second defeat to the same club in five days, and they sit 13th, on 11 points, with the pressure mounting on the dugout.

Newcastle boss Jaissle took responsibility after the game, in a reaction already covered on TimeGridFC's social channels, but words will not change the table. Everton host Coventry City on Friday, while Newcastle must find a response — and quickly — before a bad run becomes a full-blown crisis.
