Barcelona 4-1 Galatasaray: Flick's Ten-in-a-Row Machine Rolls On
Barcelona extended their sensational winning run to ten games in all competitions on Tuesday night, coming from behind to rout Galatasaray 4-1 in a hostile Istanbul atmosphere in the Champions League.
The hosts stunned the visitors when Aleksey Batrakov put Galatasaray ahead in the first half, and for a while an upset looked possible. But Barcelona's quality told before the break — Joao Cancelo equalised just before half-time to silence the home crowd and change the entire complexion of the evening.
Whatever Hansi Flick said at the interval worked. Barcelona took complete control in the second half, moving the ball with the swagger of a team that believes it can beat anyone. Fermin Lopez put them ahead, Anthony Gordon added a third, and Karim Adeyemi completed the rout to seal an emphatic victory.
"In the second half, we dominated the game," Flick said afterwards. "We have to play like this, control the game, move the ball. This is our quality. This is our strength, and we have to show our level."
It was a mature, ruthless European away performance — exactly the kind Barcelona have too often failed to produce in recent seasons. Ten wins in a row, top of the pile, and playing some of the most exciting football on the continent: Flick's Blaugrana are beginning to look like genuine contenders for everything this season.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, were condemned to a second consecutive Champions League defeat despite their bright start — a reminder of the fine margins at this level.
