Kane Agrees Bayern Stay Until 2029 as Ballon d'Or Countdown Begins
Harry Kane is staying in Munich. The England captain has agreed a new Bayern Munich deal in principle until the summer of 2029, committing his peak years to the German champions and ending — surely for good — the lingering dream of a Premier League return to chase Alan Shearer's record.
According to Sky Sports News, the main terms of the contract — salary and duration — have been agreed, with the paperwork now in legal checks ahead of an expected signing. Kane's current deal ran until 2027; Fabrizio Romano has also reported the framework of the new agreement, while The Times notes that Kane initially pushed for a deal running to 2030 before settling on 2029.
The timing is no accident. The Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on October 26, and Bayern are reportedly rushing to complete the paperwork before it — with Kane considered one of the leading contenders for football's most prestigious individual prize.
The numbers explain why Bayern were so keen to tie him down. Kane has scored 154 goals in 156 appearances for the club, including 50 in the 2026 calendar year alone. His 101 Bundesliga goals have come in just 99 games — he became the fastest player to reach a century of German top-flight goals in September 2026, needing only 98 matches. The honours list is just as heavy: two Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal, two German Super Cups, the European Golden Shoe twice in three years, and the Bundesliga Golden Boot in all three of his seasons in Germany.
On the international stage, he equalled Peter Shilton's 125-cap England record during the recent international break, with the outright record expected to fall in next month's Nations League fixtures.
For England supporters still dreaming of the Shearer chase, this is the full stop. Kane left English football on 213 Premier League goals — 47 short of 261. At 33, with a contract running to 2029, that mountain will remain unclimbed. What he gets instead is a genuine shot at the Ballon d'Or in ten days' time — and the chance to finish his career as Bayern's defining number nine.
